Sonex

The VGs are working incredibly well on my Sonex. Because I have a private airstrip (really just a small patch of green farmland) about 150 meters long, I could clearly feel the difference between a “no-vortex” and a “vortexed” wing. Takeoff distance was reduced by about 25 meters. The climb rate did not change, but the climb speed is noticeably better now. Cruise speed has also improved, averaging about 15 km/h more than before, with the same fuel consumption.

Data:

Aircraft: Sonex with 90 hp Subaru EA-81 custom installation
Cruise speed: before 185 km/h → now 200 km/h
Stall speed: before 92 km/h → now 80 km/h
Takeoff distance: before 300 m → now 275 m
Takeoff distance on my strip: before 140 m → now 110 m
Landing distance (uphill field): before 100 m → now 70 m
Climb rate: 650 ft/min

Result: Absolutely positive!
